Pesaro – Nordkapp (winterXperience)
5th Cayenne Winter Xperience. We did called it because really we want visit Norway, precisely Nordkapp, during winter time.
We got it because 2009-2010 winter has been the coldest one in the last 30 years.
The 3 Cayenne (Diesel, S and Turbo S), after the first leg from Pesaro to Bamberg (Germany) found immediately a lot of snow and in Frederikshavn (Denmark) where the first ferry has been taken to Oslo, roads were covered by 1” snow.
Similar situation in Oslo with a temperature of 9 F.
In Oslo we changed tyres with a different type provided by one of the biggest tyres dealer in Norway, Josh Bjerke Company.
A special thank goes to Mr Carslen Oyvind, President of the Porsche Club Norge, that has helped us.
Tyres we had: Yokohama Geolandar, special version only produced for Northern Europe Countries.
We drove the 3.100 Miles in Norway, Lapland, Finland and Sweden, without any problem.
Fresh snow, ice, very cold and strong wind, temperature also of -17F (-27 Celsius) in Lapland: every day this has been the constant condition in which we spend the 15 days.
We noticed that the majority of the cars on the road got “spikes” when we were without!!
This is furthermore a confirmation that the experience of the Drivers has been helped by the Cayenne technology, making possible to drive safely on any kind of road.
Oslo, Trondheim, Sandnessjoen, crossing the Polar Arctic Circle (Napapiri in local language) and to Bodo where the Ferry was waiting us for to arrive to Lofoten Islands.
22th February 3 more Participants joined the Drivers Diego Pazzi, Ignazio Piazza and Stefano Vichi. Camillo Cangiotti, Silvano Piermaria and the journalist Luna Bondesan.
Only Luna is the new entry, the others are veterans of the Cayenne Artic Route.
Next morning the quantity of snow falling was really impressive, it is sufficient to tell that for to cover the 33 miles from Nusfjord to A (the oldest fisherman village of the Lofoten Islands) time needed 90 minutes!
Driving direction Alta, we had a very nice sunset and we realised to have the good conditions for to see that night the Northern Light, but few hours later a strong wind from East brought clouds, so our dream to see the “spectacle” vanished.
25th was the Day! Only 168 Miles to Nordkapp, but a snow storm and the same wind of the night before blowing at 36 Miles/h, did not helped us in seeing the sites.
Nordkapp was the Target, so careless snow and wind we managed to take photos under our Artic Route Adventure sign and we started our drive back to Alta, always under snow storm!
Next leg has been to Ivalo (Lapland) where we visited the Porsche Camp Driving Experience.
Mr Stephan Griese, Camp Responsible and Mr Patrik Hunninger, pilot, they took us in the iced lake where are organised the tracks for Porsche owners, learning how to drive on ice.
Of course they are professional drivers and what they did made with Cayenne and Panamera Turbo is something impossible for a normal driver.
But they were surprised to see our cars without “spikes” and added that this means we are good ones, because not easy on ice without Spikes!
Rovaniemi (Finland), Gavle (Sweden) and Oslo, for to put again our “normal” tyres and get the Ferry to Denmark from where, in one “shot” we arrived to Strasbourg (France).
Last day as been dedicated to the Geneva (Switzerland) Car Exhibition and we had the chance to see the new Cayenne (very nice!) and the superb Porsche 918.
Was late, so we decided to stop in Courmayeur (Italy), also there we found snow and next morning direction Home, Pesaro.
